In recent weeks, the Greater Chicago Food Depository has been hard at work responding to the increased need for food during the COVID-19 pandemic. While Illinois’ shelter-in-place order still remains in effect, Fitness Machine Technicians Chicago has happily joined the food bank’s volunteer efforts to help distribute food to their community.
Owner Berenice Carlson and her technician Ricardo Morales have been volunteering on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while maintaining social distancing and sanitizing practices while they’re there. Food bank volunteers—who are considered essential workers according to IL state policy—help pack emergency boxes full of 20-30 pounds of shelf-stable items. These boxes will then be distributed to families across Cook County who are facing economic hardship.
During their visit last Tuesday, the food bank’s volunteers accomplished an impressive amount of work!
Volunteer slots fill up quickly and there is an ongoing waiting list for others wanting to help. Fitness Machine Technicians Chicago is glad to have the opportunity to give back to their community in any way they can.
